Red wine

Today is National Wine Day, and we're here to give you permission to celebrate: The American Heart Association tells us that between four and eight ounces of wine each day is actually good for you!

The health benefits of wine come from the compound Resveratrol, which comes from the skins of red grapes. (You can also find it in blueberries, cranberries and nuts.) White wine also contains Resveratrol, though not as much as red wine.

Resveratrol reduces the stickiness of blood platelets, helping keep your blood vessels open and flexible.

Unfortunately, alcohol ultimately is toxic to the heart muscle and can be addictive. So, only if you're able to enjoy a small amount of wine, rest easy in the knowledge that it is part of a healthy and varied diet. Salud!
