Pesky Summer Bug Bites

Put a stop to the pain and itch from pesky bug bites! A downside of summer fun is getting bitten by pests like mosquitoes and bees. A few tips for dealing with bites and stings:
Stay still. Moving around will spread the venom in your system. If the sting was on an arm or leg, lower it to prevent the spread of venom.

Apply ice for 15 minutes every hour, for the first six hours. Keep a cool, wet cloth on the area when it is not being iced.

If the stinger is still in you, remove it promptly.

Apply calamine lotion or hydrocortisone 1% cream to relieve itching and redness.

A local anesthetic spray containing benzocaine might help relieve pain.

For adults – or with physician approval for children – try an oral antihistamine to relieve itching, redness and swelling.

Hours later, if swelling is present, elevate the area. If you don't see swelling, apply heat to relieve discomfort.
