Healthy School Lunches
We can help you make school lunches a breeze this year! Packing lunches for your crew can be quite the chore, but there are ways to lighten the load. Consider including your kids in the process. As a bonus, you might find less food is being wasted because they are an active part of making their own food choices.
Kids as young as kindergarten are quite capable of making a simple sandwich. Then, they can help with items such as washing grapes or peeling oranges. Older children can bag pretzels, peel carrots or slice cheese cubes. Prep healthy foods for the coming week that the kids can easily grab each day.
Here are some ideas:
- Fruits – applesauce cups, grapes, strawberries, sliced apples with peanut butter cups, bananas, diced peaches in fruit juice.
- Veggies – carrot chips, celery with peanut butter cups, mini cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, broccoli florets with ranch dressing cups.
- Protein – string cheese, yogurt, lunch meat, peanut butter, trail mix featuring dried fruit, seeds and nuts.
- Grain – crackers, pretzels, popcorn, whole-grain bread.
