Mary Novotny, APRN
Advanced Practice Nurse
Advanced practice nurses (APNs) are registered nurses who have successfully completed an accredited master’s degree program in nursing, have obtained certification by a national nursing accreditation organization, and are licensed by the State of Illinois. APNs practice in collaboration with a physician and specialize in a number of areas, including acute care and surgery.
APNs have advanced training in performing physical exams; assessing, diagnosing and treating illnesses; prescribing medications; and recommending other forms of treatment. They also order, interpret and evaluate laboratory and diagnostic tests; formulate treatment plans; and make referrals to other members of the healthcare team as indicated.
