We’re Here to Help You Feel Better
Thank you for choosing Swedes. We want your stay at our hospital to be as comfortable as possible. We offer a number of amenities from therapy dogs and hospitalists to therapeutic massage and pastoral care and more, to help get you on the road to recovery.
If you need assistance getting to where you need to go in the hospital, we have dedicated staff driving carts to help shorten the distance to make your visit a little easier. They are located at the State Street and Charles Street entrances.
At Swedes, we offer specially trained physicians to help with hospital care. These hospitalists are board-certified internal medicine physicians who work in partnership with your primary care provider. With a hospitalist in charge of your care, you enjoy the benefit of a physician whose practice is solely dedicated to hospitalized patients.
With the deepening concern about the transmission of the COVID-19 virus and the commitment of SwedishAmerican Health System to protect all of its patients and associates, our massage program has been suspended.
We believe in the healing power of massage. Massage helps reduce stress, decrease aches and pains and provides comfort. Therapeutic massage is free and offered to our patients by board-certified and Illinois state licensed therapists. Our team uses various degrees of pressure and techniques, tailored to the individual patient and their condition. Let our care team know if you’d like to experience a massage during your stay.
With the deepening concern about the transmission of the COVID-19 virus and the commitment of SwedishAmerican Health System to protect all of its patients and associates, our caring canines program has been suspended.
Since many of our patients miss their canine companions, a visit by a tail-wagging therapy dog can bring a more home-like atmosphere to a hospital room. Swedes is proud to offer Caring Canines services, provided by specially trained dogs and their handlers in both individual and group settings. Research has shown that a visit by a specially trained therapy dog and handler can reduce stress and pain levels, lower blood pressure and result in shorter hospital stays for many patients.
Communication is key. That’s why we offer a number of services to help our caregivers make a better connection with you. We have a 24-hour telephone and video interpretation service and in-person Spanish interpreters available for patients and families. The phone service gives us immediate access to interpreters who speak more than 140 languages.
Certified signers for the hearing-impaired patients also are available for interpretation, as well as video interpreters, sound amplifiers, telephone amplifiers and TTY telephone devices for those who are hard of hearing. These services are provided at no cost. For special assistance, please ask your nurse.
We offer hotel rooms right here in our hospital. For the convenience of your loved ones who want to stay nearby, we have a small guest hotel located on the fourth floor. For availability, contact Patient Registration at (779) 696-4400, extension 4694 to request a room.
Our palliative care program aims to relieve suffering and improve the quality of life for patients with serious illness. Palliative care is provided by an interdisciplinary team that works closely with a patient’s primary care provider. Learn more by reading our brochure. Palliative care is covered by insurance in the same way as other inpatient services. If you feel palliative care may be appropriate for you or your loved one, please talk to your nurse.
We know spiritual care is a part of healing. Our chaplains are available 24 hours a day to assist patients and their families with emotional and spiritual support during times of distress, illness and grief. Whether you need someone to pray with, listen or help connect you to your own faith community, a pastoral care staff member or trained volunteer is available at any time. Just dial the operator, who will page the chaplain on call.
With the deepening concern about the transmission of the COVID-19 virus and the commitment of SwedishAmerican Health System to protect all of its patients and associates, our valet drivers will no longer be parking vehicles. Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to the restoration of full services as soon as possible.
