For years, UW Health Women and Children's Hospital, formerly SwedishAmerican Women and Children's Hospital, has been the place more moms trust to deliver their little ones. We have the area’s most popular obstetricians, beautiful birthing suites, Level III NICU and an award-winning team. Our NICU cares for newborns who are born prematurely or have other illnesses or conditions that require highly specialized care. Over a dozen pediatric specialists are located in this beautiful facility on the first floor. There's an easy check-in system and kind volunteers to help get you where you need to go. Our goal is to help you make the right health choices, and to keep you and your family healthy. We believe in providing you and your family members with compassionate health and wellness services.

FAQ about delivering your baby at Women and Children's Hospital
You may have questions about delivering your baby at the UW Health Women and Children's Hospital. Find answers to common questions.
Where do we go when we arrive for delivery?
From 8 a.m.-9 p.m. you may come to the labor and delivery unit location on the 2nd floor of the hospital. After 9 p.m., expectant parents should come through the emergency department entrance.
Will I be in a private room?
We have 20 private post-partum rooms at Women and Children's Hospital.
Do you have a secure unit?
Our unit features a locked unit with a security system. Every employee wears a badge identifying their ability to be in the unit.
Can my spouse or significant other be allowed to stay overnight?
Yes, every attempt will be made to allow a patient's spouse or significant other to stay overnight during labor and delivery.
Can my older child be present during labor?
Children are allowed to be present for labor and delivery only when a responsible adult is in charge of their care.
Will my baby be able to stay with me all the time?
We encourage new parents to keep their baby with them as much as possible. Most babies room with their new parents 24-hours a day.
How long do patients stay after delivery?
Most patients stay between 24-72 hours.
Is breastfeeding support available?
There are several certified lactation consultants on staff who see all breastfeeding mothers and who are available to help during a patient's stay. In addition, all nurses are trained to assist with breastfeeding.
After going home, patients may call the Lactation Help Line at (779) 696-4890 for questions. There is also a breastfeeding support group for continued support during those early weeks, every Tuesday from 2-3:30 p.m.
How do I get a copy of my baby's birth certificate?
A souvenir birth certificate is provided at the hospital. You can obtain a legal copy of your baby's birth certification at the Winnebago County Health Department two weeks after delivery.
