September is NICU Awareness Month and a time to honor and support families experiencing a stay in the neonatal intensive care unit. It might be difficult to fully connect and understand what NICU parents are going through, but here are a few tips for family and friends from a NICU mama herself. Can we talk about something other than Covid for a moment? Because flu season is upon us. While it seems overwhelmingly unfair to have a contagious flu virus at the same time as a global pandemic, that’s 2020 in a nutshell.
The good news is that the flu is easier to prepare for. An annual flu vaccine won’t completely prevent the illness, but it will reduce your risk of catching it by between 40 and 60 percent. It also could make you less sick if you do catch the flu – those who are vaccinated are less likely to need intensive care and their hospital stay is generally shorter.
