New Bell School Road Clinic Approved for SwedishAmerican by State Regulators

SwedishAmerican, a division of UW Health, won approval this morning from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board to expand its excellence in healthcare with the construction of a new 70,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art clinic on Bell School Road, near the SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center campus.

SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center to Host FREE Support Group for Young Women


The support group will take place on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 – 6:40 PM at Katy’s Place located inside the Regional Cancer Center, 3535 N. Bell School Road, Rockford.

SwedishAmerican Welcomes Three New Physicians

SwedishAmerican, a division of UW Health is pleased to welcome three new physicians to its team, Dr. John H. Braxton, Dr. John Kaminski and Dr. Murtaza Rizvi.

Dr. John H. Braxton is SwedishAmerican’s new cardiothoracic surgeon. He is board certified in thoracic surgery and has over 20 years of experience. He joins Dr. Srinivas Kolla in the SwedishAmerican Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinic, located within the SwedishAmerican Heart Institute, and will practice exclusively at SwedishAmerican.

SwedishAmerican Welcomes New Advanced Practice Nurses

SwedishAmerican, a division of UW Health is pleased to welcome two new advanced practice nurses (APNs) to its team, Anne Cunningham and Lorri Mostad.

Anne Cunningham is an APN who will partner with Dr. Andrea Giamalva and Dr. Stephanie Gorham at SwedishAmerican Belvidere Clinic.  Together, they will expand their practice and provide extended patient care and enhanced chronic disease management to their patients.

SwedishAmerican Continues Long-Term Relationship with Blue Cross Blue Shield

For years, SwedishAmerican Hospital; SwedishAmerican Home Health Care; and SwedishAmerican Medical Group clinics have participated with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of Illinois. BCBS insurance holders not only have access to SwedishAmerican Hospital, providers and clinics throughout Winnebago, Boone and Ogle counties, but also have access to SwedishAmerican’s outpatient pharmacy.

SwedishAmerican to Host Puttin’ On the Glitz on November 10

SwedishAmerican is hosting its annual Puttin’ On the Glitz fashion show/luncheon on Friday, November 10, at 11:00 AM at Giovanni’s. The event is a fundraiser for SwedishAmerican’s oncology patients and will go towards patient and family support services and resources.

SwedishAmerican Caring Canines Celebrate Seventh Birthday

Research has shown that a visit by a specially trained therapy dog and handler can reduce stress and pain levels, lower blood pressure and result in shorter hospital stays for many patients. SwedishAmerican started its Caring Canines program in 2010 and recently celebrated its seventh birthday.

Approval for New Women and Children’s Tower at SwedishAmerican Delayed as Regulators Seek More Information

SwedishAmerican, a division of UW Health will return to the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board to seek approval for a new, state-of-the-art women’s and children’s tower on its main hospital campus in downtown Rockford. Today's vote of 4-2 in favor of the project fell one short of the needed 5 votes. SwedishAmerican has been given the opportunity to submit a modified application to the board for this project that has received widespread support from community leaders and elected officials.
