SwedishAmerican to Host FREE Health Talk at St. Peter and Paul Church in Rockford

SwedishAmerican, a division of UW Health is hosting a free health talk on Sunday, April 22 at 1 PM at St. Peter and Paul Church, 617 Lincoln Avenue, Rockford. SwedishAmerican Family Physician Dr. Marden Torrijos will discuss hypertension and high blood pressure. Individuals can learn if they are at risk, available treatment options and tips for families and individuals to stay healthy. Dr. Torrijos is fluent in Spanish and can answer your questions.

Nurses from SwedishAmerican will also be conducting free blood pressure checks. Everyone will take home a free gift.

SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center to Host FREE Educational Talks in April

The SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center is hosting two free educational talks during the month of April:

Drumming for Wellness will be held on Monday, April 9 at 6:00 PM. SwedishAmerican cancer patients and families are FREE; $10 for all other attendees. Space is limited. Register by calling (779) 696-7081.

SwedishAmerican's marketing team earned 3 Gold and the "Best in Broadcast" ADDY awards from the American Advertising Federation of Northern Illinois (AAFNI) during the March 9 awards celebration at the Prairie Street Brewhouse.

SwedishAmerican Foundation Hosts Swedish Nursing Students for Sixth Year in a Row

On Thursday, March 8, ten nursing students and three instructors from the De la Gardiegymnasiet upper secondary school in Lidköping, Sweden, will arrive in Rockford for a fourteen day visit. The students will do clinical work and shadow both nurses and physicians at SwedishAmerican Hospital and also learn about the Rockford community by participating in classes at Guilford High School, stay with local host families and visit the Swedish Historical Society´s Erlander Home Museum. This is the sixth year SwedishAmerican has hosted nursing students from Sweden.

SwedishAmerican InnovaMed Aesthetics to Host FREE Skin Rejuvenation Ask the Experts Talk

Spring is right around the corner and that’s why SwedishAmerican, a division of UW Health is hosting a free skin rejuvenation talk on Tuesday, March 20 from 5:30 – 6:30 PM at SwedishAmerican Hospital, conference rooms 5 & 6. Join the experts from InnovaMed Aesthetics to learn about how noninvasive cosmetic procedures can you give you a fresh, new start for spring. SwedishAmerican Foundation Announces Caring For Our Community Grant Program

The SwedishAmerican Foundation is excited to announce it will award grants through its second annual Caring For Our Community grant program. The Foundation will provide financial support to not-for-profit organizations, particularly those that complement the SwedishAmerican Foundation mission and vision. The grant application will be available Thursday, March 1 through Sunday, April 15.

SwedishAmerican Welcomes New Regional Cancer Center Director

SwedishAmerican is pleased to announce Natalie Wilson, MBA, BSN, RN has been named director of the Regional Cancer Center. Effective February 12, Natalie previously served as an operations manager at SwedishAmerican Stateline Clinic in Roscoe.

Natalie brings 15 years of nursing experience, ten of which was in pediatric oncology at UW Health, and six years working in management. A Rockford native, Natalie received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) degrees from Rockford University.

SwedishAmerican to Host Interactive Trauma Simulation Conference, March 1

SwedishAmerican, a division of UW Health will host an Interactive Trauma Simulation Conference on Thursday, March 1 at SwedishAmerican Hospital, 1401 E. State Street, 1st floor conference rooms. A light breakfast will be served at 7:30 AM and the conference will take place from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.

Newborn Babies at SwedishAmerican Celebrate American Heart Month With Red Knit Hats

Volunteers from the American Heart Association and SwedishAmerican Hospital are celebrating American Heart Month by giving away free red knit hats to all babies born at SwedishAmerican in February. The Little Hats, Big Hearts™ project is an initiative to raise awareness of heart disease, the number one killer of Americans, and congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in the country and the leading killer of infants with birth defects.

SwedishAmerican Medical Center/Belvidere Adopts New State-Of-The-Art MRI Machine

Pediatrician Dr. Manika Bhateja Relocates to Stateline Clinic

SwedishAmerican Pediatrician Dr. Manika Bhateja recently relocated to SwedishAmerican Stateline Clinic, located at 4282 E. Rockton Road, Roscoe. Previously, Dr. Bhateja was located at Rock Valley Clinic in Rockford.

Dr. Bhateja graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. She completed her pediatrics residency training at Michigan State University and is board certified in pediatrics. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and has a special interest in disease prevention, childhood obesity and childhood ADD/ADHD.
