UW Organ and Tissue Donation Honors SwedishAmerican Hospital for Maximizing the Gift of Life

The SwedishAmerican Hospital Organ and Tissue Donation Committee is pleased to announce it received a bronze Award of Hope for its ongoing commitment to saving lives through organ donation. Ten hospitals were honored by University of Wisconsin Organ and Tissue Donation (UW OTD) for their efforts in organ donation. SwedishAmerican Hospital was the only hospital in Rockford to receive an award.

The UW OTD Award of Hope recognizes the comprehensive work of hospitals that achieve or exceed the goals of two important measures that maximize the gift of life: the true donor conversion rate (TCR), which means the percent of medically eligible donors that become actual donors; and organs transplanted per donor (OTPD), which measures the average number of organs recovered from each donor.

“SwedishAmerican’s Organ and Tissue Donation Committee is extremely honored to receive this award from UW Health,” says Critical Care Unit Supervisor John Patterson. “Our team rallies together and works extremely hard when we have a potential organ donor. Our main goal is to fulfill the wishes of our donors and their families and to help those waiting for a transplant to get a second chance at life.”

The 2016 Award of Hope winners were honored during a ceremony on May 19 in Madison. For more information about SwedishAmerican’s organ and tissue donation efforts, please visit www.swedishamerican.org.
