UW Health American Family Children’s Hospital Ranks Among the Best Children’s Hospitals in the Nation with Specialists Providing Local Access to Patients at SwedishAmerican

SwedishAmerican, a division of UW Health, is pleased to announce that UW Health’s American Family Children’s Hospital is among the top children’s hospitals in six medical and surgical specialties in the annual U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospital rankings.
The children’s hospital was ranked among the top 50 in the following specialties:

•Cancer (36)
•Gastroenterology (34)
•Nephrology (25)
•Orthopedics (31)
•Pulmonary (29)
•Urology (23)

Since becoming a division of UW Health in 2015, there have been an expanding number of UW Health specialists at SwedishAmerican facilities in Rockford. Every day, patients have convenient local access to American Family Children’s Hospital specialists including peds general surgery; peds plastic surgery; peds pulmonology, peds rheumatology; peds otolaryngology and coming this summer, peds cardiology.

Data were collected from 183 children’s hospitals. U.S. News looked at clinical and operational data, results from a reputational survey of board-certified pediatric specialists and supplemental information from resources like the National Cancer Institute. The data included level and quality of hospital resources directly related to patient care, delivery of health care such as infection-prevention programs, and adherence to best practices and clinical outcomes such as patient survival, complications and infection rates.

American Family Children’s Hospital is an 87-bed facility with 30 specialty clinics and 220 physicians and surgeons. The hospital includes a 14-bed Level IV surgical neonatal intensive care unit, a dedicated pediatric imaging suite that provides ultra-low-dose imaging and a state-of-the-art hybrid catheterization/angiography suite.
