ROCKFORD, Illinois – The 35th annual State Street Mile, presented by SwedishAmerican, will be held Saturday, August 3 in downtown Rockford.

Participants can choose between the Open Men and Women Heat (ages 17-39), the Masters Men and Women Heat (ages 40 and older), the Ben Newson Jr. Boys and Girls Heats, or the quarter mile Kids Fun Run (ages 12 and younger).

Similar to years past, the committee will give away $1,000 to the high school that has the most registered and most participating students, staff and faculty. The committee is also awarding middle and elementary schools. The winning middle school will receive $750 and the winning elementary school will receive $500. Attendees are encouraged to wear their school apparel on race day.

“We are excited to be celebrating our 35th year as ‘The Fastest Mile in the Midwest,’” race director Rick Durso said. “The run is all about promoting health and bringing together families and individuals of all ages. We look forward to working with our local schools again and giving back to them.”
