SwedishAmerican Staff Dance to Raise Funds and Awareness for Breast Cancer
SwedishAmerican Hospital recently entered the 2016 Medline Pink Glove Dance Competition, positioning the Styling For Pink Foundation for a shot at a $10,000 donation to assist cancer patients with transportation and medication expenses. More than 100 SwedishAmerican associates starred in the video to help spread breast cancer awareness and prevention.
The annual dance competition is the only breast cancer prevention campaign that unites healthcare professionals, survivors, patients and communities to honor those who have been affected by the disease. SwedishAmerican’s dance video showcases each department that impacts its cancer patients, from the Breast Health Center to the SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center. The video features SwedishAmerican doctors, nurses, massage therapists, phlebotomists, pharmacists, caring canines, volunteers, support staff and SwedishAmerican’s mascot SAM the dog.
“We had so much fun producing our Pink Glove Dance video with SwedishAmerican staff that directly impact our local breast cancer patients and survivors,” said SwedishAmerican Patient Care Technician and Choreographer Jenn Conner. “Whether we win or lose, we are still spreading awareness about the disease and supporting our patients who are currently battling one of the toughest fights they will ever encounter.”
SwedishAmerican, a division of UW Health offers some of the best breast cancer care in the region. Patients have access to oncology experts at the nationally recognized University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center. Additionally patients have access to holistic health services; palliative care services; and the latest treatment options, including radiation, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and supportive treatments.
The annual competition is sponsored by Medline Industries, Inc., manufacturer of medical supplies, including pink gloves. Individuals can vote for SwedishAmerican’s video once per day at www.pinkglovedance.com under the large-bed category from Monday, September 12 to Friday, September 23. The winning video will be announced on Friday, September 30.
