SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center to Host Lighting Ceremony to Raise Awareness about Lung Cancer
The SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center will host a lighting ceremony as part of a global campaign to raise awareness about lung cancer. On Thursday, November 9 at 5:30 PM, the Regional Cancer Center will join 200 communities across the country in hosting the 9th annual Shine a Light on Lung Cancer in partnership with Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA).
Local lung cancer patients, survivors, family members, caregivers and the community are invited to participate in this very special event.
• 5:30 PM – Social hour and music by Kantorei of Rockford
• 6:00 PM – Shine a Light program (speakers from SwedishAmerican and lung cancer survivor story)
• 7:00 PM - Lighting ceremony in the Cancer Center lobby
Every year, more people die from lung cancer than breast, prostate, colon and pancreatic cancers combined. Additionally, nearly 80 percent of those diagnosed are former smokers or non-smokers. The Regional Cancer Center Shine the Light event will provide hope, inspiration and support, empowering attendees to join the historic movement for lung cancer and ease the burden of all of those impacted.
“The Regional Cancer Center is honored to host Shine a Light on Lung Cancer,” says SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center Oncology Supervisor Amanda Lynch. “So many people in this area are impacted by lung cancer, and this is one way our community can come together and help raise awareness for this disease.”
