SWEDISHAMERICAN REGIONAL CANCER CENTER EARNS RE-CERTIFICATION OF THE JOINT COMMISSION'S GOLD SEAL OF APPROVAL

SwedishAmerican’s Regional Cancer Center is pleased to announce it has successfully earned re-certification of The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Lung Cancer Disease Specific Care. The Regional Cancer Center is one of only five programs in the country to achieve the certification in the past five years.

“We are truly in an elite group with this re-certification,” SwedishAmerican President and CEO Dr. Michael Born said. “This is a reflection of how dedicated our staff is to providing the highest level of care for patients with lung cancer. It’s a remarkable achievement for the Regional Cancer Center and our organization.”

SwedishAmerican earned the certification after undergoing a voluntary and rigorous on-site evaluation, demonstrating compliance with the nationally developed standards for lunch cancer care.

Lung cancer is the second-most-common cancer in both men and women. It often goes undetected until the cancer has reached the advanced stage, which can affect survival. Patients diagnosed with lung cancer require a team approach to their care. At SwedishAmerican, a team of specialists from multiple disciplines jointly evaluate patients with known or suspected lung tumors in a timely and coordinated manner. A registered nurse serves as a navigator, assisting the patient with education, support and coordination of services throughout their diagnosis and treatment.
