SwedishAmerican Only Hospital in Rockford to be Honored with Healthgrades 2016 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award For Second Year in a Row

SwedishAmerican is pleased to announce that it has achieved the 2016 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award for the second consecutive year by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. The distinction makes SwedishAmerican one of only six hospitals in Illinois and the only hospital in Rockford to be named within the top five percent of all hospitals evaluated for exceptional care provided to mothers during labor and delivery.

“SwedishAmerican is honored to be the only hospital in Rockford to receive this award for the second year in a row,” says SwedishAmerican President and CEO Dr. Bill Gorski. “This award affirms our commitment to the highest level of care for mothers and their new babies who are delivered here at SwedishAmerican.”

“I’m extremely proud of our labor and delivery staff as they are committed to providing outstanding care to women during childbirth, as well as caring for their newborn babies,” says SwedishAmerican OB/GYN Department Chairman Dr. William K. Cunningham. “Receiving this award for the second consecutive year shows SwedishAmerican’s consistency of providing high-quality healthcare to our expectant mothers.”

According to Healthgrades, from 2012-2014, patients treated in hospitals receiving the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award had, on average, a 36.3 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award.

SwedishAmerican delivers more than 2,500 babies a year, which is more than any other hospital in northern Illinois. The hospital gives expectant mothers the freedom to customize their birthing experience and offers the region’s loveliest birthing suites while extending privileges to the most popular obstetricians and family physicians in the region.

“Selecting a hospital for the birth of one’s child is the first healthcare decision made as parents,” says Healthgrades Chief Strategy Officer Evan Marks. “By choosing a hospital recognized as a Healthgrades 2016 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award recipient, parents can take comfort knowing that they have access to the highest quality care for their loved ones.”
