SwedishAmerican Only Hospital in Rockford to Be Honored with Healthgrades 2015 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award

SwedishAmerican is pleased to announce that it has achieved a 2015 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award from Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. The distinction places SwedishAmerican within the top five percent of all hospitals evaluated for exceptional care provided to mothers during labor and delivery, making SwedishAmerican one of only 52 hospitals evaluated; one of only nine hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin to be named in the top five percent; and the only hospital in Rockford to be honored with the award.

“This is a significant accomplishment by the employees and physicians of SwedishAmerican and we are honored to receive the Healthgrades Labor and Delivery Excellence Award.” says SwedishAmerican President and CEO Dr. Bill Gorski. “Our number one priority at SwedishAmerican is focusing on patient safety and quality healthcare for all.”

According to Healthgrades, from 2011 to 2013 patients treated in hospitals receiving the Labor and Delivery Excellence Award had, on average, a 35.1 percent lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award.

SwedishAmerican delivers more than 2,500 babies a year, which is more than any other hospital in northern Illinois. The hospital gives expectant mothers the freedom to customize their birthing experience and offers the region’s loveliest birthing suites while extending privileges to the most popular obstetricians and family physicians in the region.

“For many people, selecting a hospital for the birth of one’s child is the first healthcare decision made as parents, and a time to access important information to lower your risk of having a complication or outcome that can lengthen your hospital stay,” says Healthgrades Chief Strategy Officer Evan Marks. “Consumers can have confidence that those hospitals recognized as a Healthgrades 2015 Labor and Delivery Excellence Award recipient have demonstrated an established commitment to maternal care.”
