SwedishAmerican to Host 8th Annual SAM’s Safety Fair, May 19

The eighth annual SAM’s Safety Fair will be held on Saturday, May 19, from 10 AM to 3 PM, on the grounds of SwedishAmerican Hospital (east side of the Hospital campus in front of Camelot Tower). Kids, along with their parents, will be able to visit 30 organizations’ booths during the event, which is being held in conjunction with Emergency Medical Services Week.

Named after SwedishAmerican’s mascot, SAM (SwedishAmerican Mascot), kids will be able to meet local firefighters and police officers; explore the inside of an ambulance and fire truck; learn about boat safety; bicycle safety; burn prevention; pet safety; poison prevention; water and sun safety; injury prevention and more. They also can participate in the bicycle safety rodeo and receive a free helmet (while supplies last). From there, they can visit the SwedishAmerican Caring Canines and animals from the Winnebago County Animal Shelter. In addition, there will be a rock climbing wall and inflatable obstacle course.

Kids can meet SAM, our SwedishAmerican mascot, Hammy from the Rockford IceHogs, and the interactive Sparky the fire truck and Andy the ambulance.

“We are very excited to host the eighth annual SAM’s Safety Fair, a FREE event that’s fun for the whole family,” says SwedishAmerican Trauma Services Manager Jennifer Pirrello. “The event is a great place for families to learn about safety and healthy habits and understand what resources are available in our community.”

The event is free and open to the public. Giveaways will be provided and free popcorn, snow cones and cotton candy will be available. Use hashtag #SAMSafetyFair on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter the day of the event and be entered in to win a Discovery Center one day pass for a family of four.
