SwedishAmerican Hospital Recognized as an American Heart Association Fit-Friendly Worksite

SwedishAmerican Hospital is pleased to announce it has been recognized as a platinum level Fit-Friendly Worksite by the American Heart Association for helping employees eat better and move more. SwedishAmerican Hospital has previously earned gold status, but this is the first time it has achieved platinum level.

“Physical activity and employee wellness are important priorities at SwedishAmerican Hospital. We are honored and excited to be recognized by the American Heart Association as a platinum level Fit-Friendly Worksite,” says Jerry Guinane, vice president of human resources at SwedishAmerican. “Encouraging our associates to better their overall wellbeing embodies our organization’s mission and who we are as healthcare providers.”

Platinum-level Fit-Friendly Worksite employers:

•Offer employees physical activity options in the workplace.
•Increase healthy eating options at the worksite.
•Promote a wellness culture in the workplace.
•Implement at least nine criteria outlined by the American Heart Association in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture.
•Demonstrate measurable outcomes related to workplace wellness.

Since 2015, SwedishAmerican has reduced Workers Comp costs by nearly 10.5 percent, and reduced average sick days per employee. To promote whole-body wellness, SwedishAmerican encourages its associates to participate in wellness challenges throughout the year. They range from department walking challenges to the “Maintain, Don’t Gain” holiday eating challenge.
