SwedishAmerican Hospital EMS System Announces Community Paramedic Program to Begin in Three Regional Locations

Illinois Department of Public Health has approved a pilot Community Paramedic (Mobile Integrated Healthcare) Program through SwedishAmerican Hospital’s Emergency Medical Services System in the communities of Rockton, Roscoe and Byron.

Paramedics from the fire departments in these communities will visit patients in their homes. Any patient who has been transported to an area hospital or called for an ambulance and then refused transport may receive a follow-up visit. Not all patients who receive a follow-up visit will be enrolled in the program.

“Our overall goal is to improve the health of people who live in these communities by connecting them to the services they need,” says EMS Medical Director Dr. John Underwood, who will oversee the program.

Administrators from Rockton Fire, Harlem-Roscoe Fire, Byron Fire and Dr. John Underwood will be available to speak about the program on Monday, November 23 at 1:00 PM. The location is the SwedishAmerican Hospital EMS Program Building, 4120 Charles Street, Rockford, IL.
