SwedishAmerican First Hospital in Illinois to Install State-of-the-Art Newborn Safety System

SwedishAmerican is pleased to announce that it is the first hospital in Illinois to install a new and innovative newborn safety system developed by CertaScan Technologies. The proprietary system allows the hospital to capture high resolution newborn footprints, which can be used for precise identification in situations like an abduction or natural disaster.

The newborn safety system, which uses LiveScan Technology, has garnered attention and praise from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and has been included as a recommendation for hospitals in the NCMEC’s most recent Infant Security Guidelines.

The system is entirely safe to use on babies and provides outstanding footprint quality. It’s easy to use, seamless to adopt and replaces the time consuming and messy ink and paper method. The digital footprints and security photo are stored efficiently in the newborn’s electronic medical record.

“We are very excited to have this new system in our hospital,” says SwedishAmerican Mother/Baby Manager Janice Southard. “Even though infant abduction is not a problem at SwedishAmerican, it helps add another layer of security and peace of mind for our parents and everyone involved with caring for our newborns.”

Each new family will receive a certificate with their newborn’s footprint during his or her stay. For more information, please visit www.certascantek.com.
