SwedishAmerican Employees Donate More Than 1,200 Books for Little Free Libraries

The SwedishAmerican Foundation is excited to announce the results of its employee book drive to support SwedishAmerican’s four Little Free Libraries. More than 1,200 books were collected at more than six SwedishAmerican sites during the Little Free Library Book Drive that took place July 18 through July 31. Out of the 1,200 books donated, 1,142 are children’s novels.

In early July, the SwedishAmerican Foundation announced it opened four Little Free Libraries around the SwedishAmerican Hospital campus and its surrounding neighborhoods. Little Free Libraries are an international movement where people place small, weather proof boxes in their communities. These boxes are stocked with books which are free to the public to take and return. The hope is that when someone takes a book, they will return it or replace it with another book. There currently are over 36,000 Little Free Library book exchanges around the world.

SwedishAmerican’s Little Free Libraries are located in the following areas:

•Keith Creek Neighborhood; two libraries located in the 900 block of 15th Street, Rockford
•Beattie Playground (Jackson Oaks Neighborhood); 1500 block of Rural Street, Rockford
•Strong Neighborhood House; 1233 Revell Avenue, Rockford
•SwedishAmerican Hospital Campus; 1401 E. State Street, Rockford (Two new Little Free Libraries coming soon)

“We are overwhelmed by the amount of donations and support we received from our very own SwedishAmerican employees,” says SwedishAmerican Foundation Director Laura Wilkinson. “SwedishAmerican employees truly care for their community and this is one way we can help create change in our surrounding neighborhoods and ultimately promote literacy for children and adults alike.”
