SwedishAmerican Chief Clinical Integration Officer Dr. Kathleen Kelly to Retire

SwedishAmerican Chief Clinical Integration Officer Dr. Kathleen Kelly, MD, ABIHM, FACP, is retiring after more than two decades of service and leadership at SwedishAmerican.

Dr. Kelly came to Rockford in 1990 and has worked in numerous clinical and administrative positions. She practiced internal medicine at Woodside clinic and helped develop and serve as the medical director of SwedishAmerican’s Benchmark Insurance Company. She was named director of clinical integration in 2001 and became the chief medical officer/chief quality officer one year later when Dr. Henry C. Anderson retired. Dr. Kelly served as chief medical officer until 2013 when she accepted her current position to lead the clinical efforts across SwedishAmerican, local businesses and agencies and with UW Health.

“Dr. Kelly is leaving a lasting legacy of medical excellence, compassionate service, evidence based quality, and tireless dedication and support for our patients,” says SwedishAmerican President & CEO Dr. Bill Gorski. “We have worked together for nearly three decades and Dr. Kelly has been at the front of all of our achievements.”

A native of upstate New York, Dr. Kelly earned her Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry at SUNY Albany and her medical degree from Albany Medical College. She completed her residency at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. Additionally, she was a staff internist and ED physician at Virginia Mason and also for Kaiser Permanente in suburban Washington DC.

“Although I am extremely proud of SwedishAmerican’s commitment to our neighborhood, mission, and community, my prime focus has always been on the patient,” says Dr. Kelly. “When people would ask me what the job of the CMO was, I would say that I serve as Chief Patient Advocate for SwedishAmerican.”

Dr. Kelly’s final day at SwedishAmerican will be on July 1.
