SwedishAmerican to Celebrate its 107th Anniversary & Host Founder’s Week Activities, June 4 – 9
SwedishAmerican Hospital was founded on June 6, 1911. To celebrate and honor its 107th anniversary, SwedishAmerican, a division of UW Health, is hosting a week-long celebration, June 4 – 9.
On Monday, June 4, SwedishAmerican kicks-off the week with Music Monday. Associates, patients and their families are invited to bring their lunch outside to the Heart Hospital Healing Garden and listen to live music from 11 AM – 1 PM. The SwedishAmerican Commons will also offer specials each day to celebrate the week.
On Tuesday, June 5, SwedishAmerican will hold its 5th annual employee wheelchair relay races from 12:00–1:00 PM near the Heart Hospital entrance. Eight employee teams, including two teams from senior leadership, will decorate their wheelchairs and race against each other in a fun and safe relay course. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest wheelchair team and best decorated wheelchair. Following the race, SwedishAmerican will present a check to the Rockford Park District Therapeutic Recreation Department.
Wednesday, June 6 is “Wellness Wednesday.” BetterLife Wellness will host a Be-Well Fest from 10 AM – 3 PM for its employees and the community. A variety of booths will be set-up in the Heart Hospital lobby for individuals to explore.
On Thursday, June 7, SwedishAmerican will give-back to the community and kick-off its Diaper Drive at 11 SwedishAmerican locations throughout the community. Why diapers? One out of three families struggle to purchase diapers and the average infant uses 3,000 diapers in the first-year of life. Leaving an infant, toddler or child in a soiled diaper for long periods of time increases their risk of diaper rash, skin infections and urinary tract infections. Donations will be accepted through Friday, June 21 and given to The Pregnancy Care Center.
Friday, June 8 is #FlashBackFriday. SwedishAmerican Associates are encouraged to travel back in time and dress to represent their favorite decade. Poodle skirts, white nurse’s caps and big hair! This is an opportunity for Swedes Associates to pay tribute to those that walked the halls before them.
In addition, SwedishAmerican will host its annual Employee Service Award Banquet on Friday at the UW Health Sports Factory. Hundreds of employees will attend and enjoy dinner and entertainment. Winners will be announced for the Dr. Henry C. Anderson Quality Award, an award to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to improving healthcare quality. A winner also will be announced for the annual Dr. Bill Gorski Mission Award, an award to honor a SwedishAmerican associate who has lived out SwedishAmerican’s mission by providing excellence in healthcare and compassionate care to the community.
Lastly, on Saturday, June 9 from 1 – 4 PM, the SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center will host National Cancer Survivor Day. All cancer survivors and their families are invited to attend and enjoy a special survivorship celebration at the Regional Cancer Center, 3535 North Bell School Road, Rockford.
The day will be filled with hope, inspiration and friendship and will feature a variety of activities including:
• Visit with our SwedishAmerican Caring Canines and SAM the dog
• Participate in flower arranging and craft projects
• Listen to speakers throughout the afternoon including: Kerry Kline, Lori Kline, Alane Curry and Deb Schwarze
• Take a tour of the facility and view art installations
