SwedishAmerican Byron Clinic Announces New Walk with a Doc Program

Would you enjoy exercising while getting your health questions answered at the same time? Now you can. SwedishAmerican Byron Clinic and the Byron Park District are teaming-up to host Walk with a Doc, a national program with a mission to encourage healthy physical activity in people of all ages.

Walk with a Doc is FREE and will take place every Wednesday morning, April 19 through May 24 and June 7 through July 12, from 6:30 – 7:30 AM. Byron Family Medicine Physicians Dr. Tammy Homman and Dr. Joseph Kimbell will trade their lab coats for tennis shoes and answer health questions from the community. Participants should meet at the Byron Park District, 420 N. Colfax Street, Door #54. Walks will take place at the Byron Park District indoor track and once the temperature warms-up, walks will take place outside or in various parks around Byron. Pre-registration is not required.

For local residents wanting to learn more about Walk with a Doc, they are invited to the Byron Clinic, 230 West Blackhawk Drive, on Wednesday, April 5 (National Walking Day) at 6 PM. Drs. Homman and Kimbell will discuss the importance of walking and share more information about the Walk with a Doc program.

“SwedishAmerican and the Byron Park District are extremely excited to kick-off its Walk with a Doc program,” says Dr. Tammy Homman. “There’s no question that increasing exercise reduces the risk of many diseases and walking is one way to start. However, instead of walking alone, residents now have the opportunity to walk alongside other community members and have the chance to talk about their health while getting fit at the same time. It’s a win-win.”

Light refreshments will be served on April 5 and one lucky participant will win a prize. To register for this free presentation, please call SwedishAmerican Health Connect at (779) 696-7081.
