SwedishAmerican Breaks Ground On New Edgewater Medical Center
SwedishAmerican officially broke ground today on its new state-of-the-art Edgewater Medical Center, located at 2909 N. Main Street in northwest Rockford.
SwedishAmerican leadership, board members, doctors, and representatives from the City of Rockford, along with local officials, formally broke ground on its new $9 million clinic. Additional project partners for the new facility include Schmeling Construction and S.E./Coady Architects.
The new 18,000 square-foot multispecialty clinic will offer 22 clinic rooms, seven providers and feature OB/GYN and family medicine. Additionally, the clinic will have ancillary services including lab and medical imaging.
“This is one of several expansions we’ve been celebrating lately,” says SwedishAmerican President and CEO Dr. Michael Born. “This one is especially important, because we are building this state-of-the-art facility in an area of Rockford that we feel has been under-served in the past. This is part of SwedishAmerica’s commitment to meet the needs of everyone in our community.”
The new SwedishAmerican Edgewater Medical Center will add approximately 150 construction jobs along with new permanent healthcare jobs. Construction on the clinic will officially begin this fall with completion in late 2019.
“This is a very exciting time for SwedishAmerican,” says SwedishAmerican Vice President of Operations Jedediah Cantrell. “This could be the busiest construction season we’ve ever had, and the addition of this clinic will have another positive financial impact in our community.”
Earlier this year, SwedishAmerican received approval on its expansion plan to construct a new women’s and children’s tower while modernizing its main hospital campus in downtown Rockford. Additionally, the health system announced plans to expand its healthcare services with the construction of Riverwest Clinic, located at 815 Marchesano Drive on Rockford’s southwest side, and Creekside Medical Center, located on Rockford’s northeast side.
