Strong Neighborhood House to Host Christmas Open House for Neighborhood Children
The Strong Neighborhood House, located at 1233 Revell Avenue in Rockford, is celebrating the holiday season and hosting a free Christmas Open House on Tuesday, December 19 from 5 – 7 PM. The event is sponsored by the SwedishAmerican Foundation, Rockford Police Department and Jackson Oaks Neighborhood Association.
Neighborhood children will have an opportunity to make their own ornament and Christmas cookies and light refreshments will be provided. In addition, Rockford Police Community Service Officers will be on-site to meet with residents and help celebrate the holiday.
“It’s truly the most wonderful time of the year and we look forward to hosting an open house to help area residents get in the Christmas spirit,” says SwedishAmerican Foundation Director Laura Wilkinson. “Children and adults of all ages are encouraged to attend and most importantly they can continue to make relationships with our local Rockford Police Community Service Officers.”
In an effort to revitalize the 81-block area surrounding SwedishAmerican Hospital, the SwedishAmerican Foundation purchased and renovated the house and licensed it to the Rockford Police Department in May of 2015. The house is a space where officers help to facilitate problem solving and build closer relationships with neighbors while ultimately reducing crime in the neighborhood.
