Midtown Community Work Day to Spruce Up Homes in Rockford’s Central City

SwedishAmerican Foundation, Midtown District, Rockford Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Financial is excited to announce it is hosting a Midtown Community Work Day on Saturday, June 11. Earlier this year, owner-occupied residents that live in the Midtown District were eligible to apply for a $2,500 exterior repair grant. Eight local residents applied and will receive their grant on June 11. Additionally, local volunteers from the Rockford Area Habitat for Humanity, East High School and SwedishAmerican will help residents who received a grant build ramps, clean gutters, plant trees, flowers and shrubs, replace windows and doors and do general repair work to their homes.

Funding is being provided by Thrivent Financial, a local financial services firm that also supports local programs that helps build stronger families, churches and communities. The eight residents who will receive a grant on June 11 also have the opportunity to meet with Habitat for Humanity one-on-one to discuss their needs and develop a punch list for their specific project. In addition to the eight homes that are being repaired, volunteers also will work on a beautification project for the Midtown District.

“We’re extremely excited to give exterior home repair grants to eight Midtown District residents,” says Rockford Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Keri Nelson. “All of the organizations who are working together on this are committed to the community and are proud to offer support to those who want to enhance their homes. This is just one more way we can help beautify Rockford and our downtown community.”
