Administrator and Cardiovascular Surgeon Retiring From SwedishAmerican

Dr. John Myers, who for the past 17 years was a cardiovascular surgeon at SwedishAmerican and most recently in 2014 became the Director of Medical Affairs and currently serves as the Director of Medical Education, retired from his position on Friday, May 5.

Dr. Myers began his career in Rockford as a cardiovascular surgeon in 1997 and was appointed Medical Director of Cardiovascular Surgical Services at SwedishAmerican in 2001. He has been a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine in Rockford since 1998 and has served on SwedishAmerican’s Board of Directors and Board of Trustees, as well as the SwedishAmerican Foundation and Rock River Valley Blood Center boards. As Medical Advisor and Conference Moderator, he was instrumental in bringing the SwedishAmerican Cardiology Millennium Conference to Rockford.

Over the years, Dr. Myers also has served many Board and clinical committees including Joint Conference Committee, Quality and Safety Leadership Council, Surgical Quality Assurance Committee and Medical Executive Committee, enhancing the quality of our organization.

Dr. Myers and his wife Pauline are looking forward to working their farm and enjoying time with the numerous puppies and pigs they have rescued over the years.
