WELLNESS & PREVENTION

Promoting wellness is one of the many ways that SwedishAmerican cares for its community. This is carried out through our efforts to help people learn about preventing or reversing disease and reaching optimal health.

SwedishAmerican was the first health system in the region to introduce lifestyle programs like the Dr. Dean Ornish Program for Reversing Heart Disease and the Comprehensive Health Improvement Program (CHIP), which have helped thousands of people to lower blood pressure, reduce cholesterol and lose weight – without medication.

Results from research conducted in our own community have been published in noted journals such as Preventive Medicine, the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Heart and Lung and the Journal of the American Dietetic Association. At the request of former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Tommy Thompson, our results have been shared at two National Steps to a Healthier US Summits, where decreasing the incidence and rising cost of treating obesity, heart disease, diabetes and cancer are key goals for our nation's health.

We hold many public events and seminars throughout the year that allow us to bring timely, useful health information to you and your family. To find out what events are coming up, we invite you explore our calendar.
