SLEEP DISORDERS CENTER

Sleep Studies

In order to diagnose a sleep disorder, the SwedishAmerican Sleep Disorders Center performs a sleep study during a patient's normal sleeping hours.

Patients sleep in one of the center's quiet, comfortable sleep rooms, which are equipped with full-size beds and TV/VCRs. Each room has sophisticated equipment for monitoring your sleep patterns, breathing, heart activity and body movements throughout the night.

A minimum of six hours is needed to ensure a quality test. A staff member is present in the adjoining room to monitor the data being recorded. The procedure is completely painless. Participants may even go to work right after the study is completed. For your convenience, a shower facility is available.

For thorough evaluation and treatment of sleep problems, the center's staff consists of professionals experienced and certified in sleep disorders medicine. The guidelines of the American Sleep Disorders Association are followed as well.

A sleep specialist will interpret your test and a copy will be sent to your primary care physician within two weeks. Some primary care physicians may refer you to the sleep specialist to recieve your results.

Scheduling a Sleep Study

Your primary care physician can refer you to the Sleep Disorders Center for a sleep study. If you do not have a primary care physician, you may schedule a consultation directly with our sleep specialist, Dr. Vivek Thappa, by calling SwedishAmerican's central scheduling department at (815) 391-7099.
