CANCER CARE

Medical Oncology/Hematology

The SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center Medical Oncology Department is an outpatient center dedicated to the treatment of all types of cancer and blood diseases, ranging from anemia to malignancies.

Located on the second floor of the SwedishAmerican Ninth Street Center, this spacious outpatient center offers lab and X-ray services, private consultation rooms and a patient library. A large, open chemotherapy suite – which contains 18 LazyBoy recliners and two private bedrooms – was designed for patient and family comfort, and offers a home-like atmosphere. It contains a kitchenette with a refrigerator and microwave for patient and family use. In addition to snacks and beverages, we offer aromatherapy, as well as art, music, and massage therapies, to patients, families, and friends during chemotherapy treatments.

Chemotherapy treatments are provided Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. by chemotherapy-certified registered nurses.

Physicians and Staff

Staff physicians include Dr. Sharon Shipp, who is board certified in oncology, as well as Drs. Harvey Einhorn and William Schulz, who are board certified in hematology and oncology. Together, our physicians offer expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and blood disorders. They are linked to major cancer centers across the country and provide state-of-the-art medical care in a compassionate, patient-centered environment.

The medical oncology staff consists of skilled professionals who are trained in the treatment of cancer. Two clinical research nurses are on-site to offer patients an opportunity to participate in clinical studies. All newly diagnosed patients are screened for eligibility in ongoing clinical trials, which provide the center with state-of-the-art treatment plans.

Oncology patients and their family members also have access to an oncology educator, dietician, social workers and a chaplain. Care and education is individualized to meet the needs of the patient and family.
