A letter from Dr. Michael J. Born, SwedishAmerican's Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer:
Dear Friends of the Rock River Valley,
Over the past decade, SwedishAmerican has put into place numerous quality initiatives that have had a measurable, positive effect on healthcare quality in our area. One of the best indicators of the success of our efforts is the Hospital Compare Web site, created by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), along with the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA).
Recently, the Hospital Compare Web site updated quality results that compare the performance of SwedishAmerican and 4,500 participating U.S. hospitals to national benchmarks. The charts and graphs in this section of our Web site show our most recent quality data. Additional information can be found at www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov.
You'll see that SwedishAmerican Hospital's performance ranked among the best in the state and that our hospital consistently provides high-quality care in the treatment of heart attack, congestive heart failure and pneumoniathree critical areas.
SwedishAmerican works hard to maintain its position as the "quality leader" among health systems in northern Illinois, and superior clinical outcomes are at the heart of our day-to-day operations. As a result, in recent years our organization has been recognized as a Solucient Top 100 U.S. Hospital, a J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital, and has received numerous other national awards for quality and excellence.
I invite you to review the following charts and graphs, which demonstrate how SwedishAmerican compares to national benchmarks in a number of clinical areas, and how satisfied patients are with the care they receive from us.
We hope this information will be of value to you and your family.
Michael J. Born, MD
Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer
