Cardiac Classes For Professionals

Basic Dysrhythmia Interpretation
May 27, 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

This five week, 20-hour course (4 hours/day) is intended for nurses, PCTs (patient care technicians), monitor technicians and cardiovascular technicians. The course is offered three times each year. No pre-requisites are required. Registration is required at least one week prior to class. SwedishAmerican employees MUST REGISTER IN PERSON. For more information call (815) 489-4404.

Fee: $10 for SwedishAmerican Hospital (SAH) employees and $75 for non-SAH employees. (20 hours - 20 CEU credits.)

SAH employees must pick up materials for this class in the Heart and Vascular Center Administrative office one week before the class begins. Materials will be mailed to non-SAH employees upon receipt of payment.

Care Of The Cardiac Patient: Class 1
Upcoming October 7, 2008, 8:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

32 hours in length (eight 4-hour sessions). The class is intended for RN's only. Topics include respiratory assessment, cardiac assessment, and heart tones. Prior BDI Class for advanced classes only attendance is strongly recommended. Registration is required at least one week prior to class. SwedishAmerican employees MUST REGISTER IN PERSON. Care Of The Cardiac Patient: Class 2
Upcoming October 14, 2008, 8:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

This four-hour class is offered twice per year, and is a basic cardiac education class. The class is intended for nurses and staff caring for adult cardiac patients or staff who have an interest in cardiology. Topics include non-invasive procedures, Cardiac Intervention and Sheath Removal. BDO and Care of the Cardiac Patient: Class 1 is strongly recommended. Care Of The Cardiac Patient: Class 3
Upcoming October 21, 2008, 8:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

This four-hour class is offered twice per year and is intended for nurses and cardiovascular staff caring for adult patients or staff who have an interest in cardiology. Topics include cardiac medications I (IV Medications) and hemodynamics monitoring (Segment A for CCU staff and Segment B for telemetry staff). Some cardiac experience is required prior to taking this class. Registration is required at least one week prior to class. SwedishAmerican employees MUST REGISTER IN PERSON. Care Of The Cardiac Patient: Class 4
Upcoming October 28, 2008, 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

This four-hour class is offered twice per year and is intended for nurses caring for all aspects of interventional cardiovascular care. Topics include cardiac interventions, renal system review,management of vacular disease, vascular risk factors & peripheral intervention, and hypertension. Care Of The Cardiac Patient: Class 5
Upcoming November 4, 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

This four-hour class is offered twice per year and is intended for nurses and cardiovascular staff caring for cardiac patients. Topics include congestive heart failure #1,management of combined systolic & diastolic dysfunction in HF, temporary pacing with wires. Basic Dysrhythmia Interpretation and understanding hemodynamics are required prior to taking this class. Registration is required at least one week prior to class. Care Of The Cardiac Patient: Class 6
Upcoming November 11, 2008, 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

This four-hour class is offered twice per year and is an advanced cardiac education class. The class is intended for experienced nurses and cardiovascular staff who have the basic concepts of myocardial infarction and dysrhythmia interpretation mastered and are ready for advanced knowledge in the area. Topics include advanced MI and cardiac medications II (oral & other). Basic Dysrhythmia Interpretation and Basic MI Theory are strongly encouraged prior to taking this class. Care Of The Cardiac Patient: Class 7
Upcoming November 18, 2008, 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Topics include Patient & Surgery Risk Stratification, Infection Control, Pre-Op Teaching, Nursing Care of the OHS Patient, Nursing Care of the OHS Patient in CCU,Cardiac Rehab.

Care of the Cardiac Patient: Class #8
Upcoming December 2, 2008, 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Topics include lab review & ABG interpretation.

Intermediate Rhythm Interpretation
Upcoming August 26, 2008, 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

This four & 1/2 hour class is offered twice a year, and is intended to reinforce basic concepts of rhythm interpretation, as well as introduce abberrency, electrolyte imbalances, and drug induced rhythms. This class is intended for nurses, monitor technicians, and staff interested in reinforcing and advancing their skills in rhythm intepretation. BDI is required prior to this class. Diabetes Update
Upcoming November 25, 2008, 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

This eight-hour course on diabetes covers basic components of diabetes self-care management, background physiology, current treatment, pharmacology update, and acute complications. The class is intended for RNs and LPNs with/without previous diabetes experience. Registration is required at least one week prior to class. SwedishAmerican employees MUST REGISTER IN PERSON. 12-Lead EKG Interpretation
Upcoming Date TBA, Two - 2 hr. Sessions

The class is intended for nurses and cardiovascular staff who care for adult patients. Call X6104 to be added to the waiting list. Class wil be scheduled when a minimum of 10 students is reached.

IABP Overview
Upcoming Dates TBA, 8:00 a.m.. - 12:00 p.m.

This four-hour class is offered four times a year. This class is divided into three modular components including theoretical, technical, and clinical considerations for patients requiring IAB therapy. This class will also include hands-on experiences with set-up, timing, and troubleshooting. This class is intended for nurses and technicians who care for patients that require IAB therapy. Basic knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring is a pre-requisite for this class and critical care experience is encouraged. SwedishAmerican employees MUST REGISTER IN PERSON.
