People often ask us about the meaning behind the name SwedishAmerican, which dates back to our origins in the early twentieth century.
In March 1911, Mr. O.F. Nilson wrote a letter to the editor of the Swedish newspaper, Svenska Posten, challenging every Swede in Rockford to donate one dollar per year for the construction of a new hospital. By June of that year, the SwedishAmerican Hospital Association received a charter of incorporation and the hospital opened in 1918.
