SwedishAmerican Health System Recognized as One of Illinois’ Healthiest Worksites
July 17, 2014
SwedishAmerican Health System announced today it has received “Gold” level designation as one of Illinois’ Healthiest Worksites. SwedishAmerican was one of only four honorees from Illinois to be recognized in the Gold level for its efforts to show exceptional commitment to improve the health of its employees.
The Illinois Healthy Worksite designation, sponsored by the Governor’s Council on Health and Physical Fitness, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce and the Illinois Department of Public Health, was created to engage employers throughout the state in worksite wellness best practices. The designation is a three-year award that includes three levels of recognition: Gold, Silver and Bronze. The Gold designation SwedishAmerican received requires satisfying criteria that should be included in a quality worksite wellness effort, such as:
•Actively promote and support health nutrition at work.
•Provide and encourage opportunities for physical activity at work.
•Develop a 12-month Health and Wellness Calendar and an ongoing communication plan to promote employee health throughout the year.
•Demonstrate a commitment to employee health and well-being by making it part of the organization’s mission statement, goals and operations.
•Develop lifestyle and disease management strategies and measure their success annually.
“SwedishAmerican Health System is proud to be named one of the Healthiest Worksites in Illinois,” says SwedishAmerican Vice President of Human Resources Jerry Guinane. “Providing workplace wellness improves morale and reduces absences. It’s critical to our success and we are proud to offer health incentives to our employees, including our new BetterLife Wellness facility, which offers comprehensive programs from wellness and nutrition classes to yoga and therapeutic massage.”
This isn’t the first time SwedishAmerican Health System has been recognized as a healthy workplace. In May, SwedishAmerican was named one of the “Healthiest Companies in America” by Interactive Health. SwedishAmerican was one of only 67 honorees from across the United States to be recognized for its efforts to prioritize employee wellness and create an ongoing culture.
