SwedishAmerican First in Rockford to Offer State-of-the-Art Low-Dose CT Scanner
April 1, 2014
SwedishAmerican Health System is pleased to announce it is the first hospital in Rockford to offer the industry’s most cutting-edge computer tomography (CT) scanner machine, the Optima CT660.
The Optima CT660 low-dose scanner is a 128-slice machine, meaning it reduces the radiation dose by 40 percent, providing diagnostic accuracy at a significantly lower dose of radiation than traditional scanners. The machine is twice as fast as an older CT unit and is tailored to treat patients old and young, from small children to large adults, and individuals in wheelchairs. It offers a 12-inch personalized touch screen display which enhances the patient’s experience by showing calming images or cartoons for children.
The low-dose machine is the world’s most energy-efficient scanner, using about 60 percent lower energy consumption than previous-generation scanners. It produces the clearest images possible, allowing our experts to diagnose with greater accuracy, providing early detection and prevention across a wide spectrum of procedures including cardiac, angiography, brain, chest, abdomen, orthopedic and more.
“In order to achieve the best possible outcomes for our patients, SwedishAmerican upgrades diagnostic medical imaging equipment to stay ahead of the curve,” says Brian Johnson, medical imaging manager at SwedishAmerican Health System. “The Optima CT660 scanner gives off a lower dose of radiation and improves patient safety without compromising accuracy or image quality.”
As a leader in healthcare, SwedishAmerican offers the Optima CT660 low-dose scanner at both SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford and SwedishAmerican Medical Center in Belvidere.
