SwedishAmerican Health System Names Dr. Michael J. Born Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer

SwedishAmerican Health System is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael J. Born, MD, MBA, CPE, FACEP, as chief medical officer and chief quality officer. Dr. Born will direct and administer processes throughout the health system that improve the quality of medical care.
In addition to overseeing the Infection Control, Risk Management, Quality Management and Patient Safety departments, Dr. Born will serve as the main clinical contact for The Joint Commission, CMS, IDPH and other regulatory bodies. His responsibilities also include the Medical Staff Office, along with its medical education and credentialing functions.
Prior to joining SwedishAmerican, Dr. Born most recently served as vice president of clinical operations for Fairfax, Va.-based BestPractices Inc. He also worked for Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, serving as chairman and medical director of the Department of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Born received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed his residency training in emergency medicine and internal medicine at Northwestern University's McGaw Medical Center. Dr. Born also holds a Masters in Business Administration from Indiana University.
Dr. Born succeeds Dr. Kathleen Kelly, who will transition to the newly created role of chief clinical integration officer.
