SwedishAmerican Hospital to Hold Active Shooter Exercise in Partnership with Local Agencies

SwedishAmerican Hospital will hold an Active Shooter Exercise within the concourse adjacent to its East State Street entrance on Thursday, September 19 from 9-11 AM. In addition to hospital personnel, exercise participants will include the Rockford Police Department, Rockford Fire Department, Rockford Public Schools District 205, the Winnebago County Coroner and local media outlets.
The purpose of the exercise is to assess the hospital's response to a potential terrorism incident involving an armed individual. The exercise will establish a learning environment for players to exercise related emergency response plans, policies, and procedures. Real weapons will NOT be used during the exercise.
No public access will be available to the hospital via the East State Street entrance from 9:00-9:15 AM during the exercise.
Access to the following areas will be impacted:
Patients and visitors should access the hospital via the Heart Hospital entrance on Charles and 10th Streets during the exercise. Hospital personnel will be available to assist and reroute guests to the appropriate entrance as needed.
