SwedishAmerican Foundation Awards $10,000 Grant to Rockford Rescue Mission’s New Works! Center

March 23, 2017

The SwedishAmerican Foundation is pleased to announce it has awarded the Rockford Rescue Mission today with a $10,000 grant to support its new Works! Center. The Center is an education and job skills training program for Rockford Rescue Mission guests and residents as well as the general public.

Rockford has a high school graduation rate of only 60 percent, and unemployed individuals often lack basic employable job skills and a positive employment record. The new Works! Center will provide education and job training classes for individuals in the community who seek to improve their employment opportunities, and will facilitate connections between employers and skilled job seekers to boost regional economic growth and productivity.

The Foundation’s $10,000 grant will support the job skills training program and allow the Rockford Rescue Mission to offer the program free of charge. Additionally, the grant will help fund educational materials and facilitate connections between employers and skilled job seekers.

“The SwedishAmerican Foundation is always honored to partner and support the Rockford Rescue Mission and help the homeless and hurting families and individuals in our community,” says SwedishAmerican Foundation Director Laura Wilkinson. “The Foundation does many things to help make the Rockford region a healthier and safer place to live, work and raise families and this grant allows us to partner with the Mission to do just that.”

In March of 2016, the SwedishAmerican Foundation provided a $30,000 grant to the Rockford Rescue Mission to support Pitney Place, the Women’s Crisis Center and Life Recovery Program. The new center focuses on educating women, helping them find jobs, and fixing the broken pieces in their lives in order to assist them to be successful and get back on their feet.
