SwedishAmerican Presents 2014 Dr. Henry C. Anderson Quality Awards
May 29, 2014
Yesterday, SwedishAmerican Health System presented the Dr. Henry C. Anderson Quality Award, the organization's highest expression of distinction and appreciation, to two recipients. Retired Director of Quality Resources Mary McCarthy and the Total Joint Replacement Team received the award in recognition of their contributions to the organization’s pursuit of quality excellence.
McCarthy worked for SwedishAmerican Health System for 25 years in the Quality department, helping to lead the organization to become the quality leader in the region. In 1989 she worked with Dr. Henry Anderson to develop a physician peer review program with specific measurable indicators for monitoring performance. McCarthy also served on the Baldridge team and provided input for performance improvement. Additionally, she planned and implemented SwedishAmerican’s data public reporting program, including core measures. McCarthy was well respected within the organization and was kind, fair and always strived for excellence.
The second Henry C. Anderson Award for Quality recipient is the Total Joint Replacement Team–a multidisciplinary group of 24 individuals from PT/OT, OR, Case Management, Social Work, SAMG/Lundholm Orthopedics and Home Health Care. In 2010 the team helped SwedishAmerican become the area’s first health system to receive the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for healthcare quality in hip and knee replacement surgery. SwedishAmerican Hospital was recertified in 2012 for The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ by demonstrating compliance with the organization’s national standards for healthcare quality and safety in several areas of disease-specific care, including hip replacement and knee replacement.
Total Joint Replacement Team members include: Dr. Oscar Anton, Dr. Victor Antonacci, Kathy Bement, Kay Blair, Tammy Bloom, Dr. Michael Born, Jedediah Cantrell, Sandy Connell, Lacrisha Diehl, Lori Fennel, Kathi Gehrke, Jean Holm, Mahendra Jain, Justin Johnson, Kristy Johnson, Dr. Kathleen Kelly, Barb Koerner, Jane Langenfeld, Andy Larson, Candice McCulloch, Margo McCulloch, Ken Scrivano, Karen Wessels and Bethany Wiltshire.
SwedishAmerican congratulates both Mary McCarthy and the Total Joint Replacement Team for earning the Dr. Henry C. Anderson Quality Award.
