SwedishAmerican Hosts Founder’s Week Activities, June 3 – 6
May 28, 2014
SwedishAmerican Hospital was founded on June 6, 1911. To celebrate and honor its 103rd anniversary, SwedishAmerican is hosting a week-long celebration, June 3 – 6.
On Tuesday, June 3, the SwedishAmerican Foundation will kick-off the week with a ribbon cutting and open house at 10:00 AM at its newly constructed Swedish house, 1301 Benton Street, Rockford. The house is built in the Swedish style and is clean and energy efficient. This is the third Swedish house SwedishAmerican has constructed as part of our efforts to help transform the neighborhood. Representatives from the SwedishAmerican Foundation Board, City of Rockford, Winnebago County and RAEDC will be in attendance.
Tuesday also kicks off our “give back to the community day.” SwedishAmerican is teaming up with Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois and hosting a donation drive at 21 SwedishAmerican locations throughout the community. Collections, taken through Tuesday, June 17, will include new or gently used clothing, computers, household items and small electronics, toys, games, sporting goods, shoes, jewelry and purses. Donations will help individuals in the community receive job training, career placement and other employment services.
Wednesday, June 4, is SwedishAmerican “Spirit Day.” SwedishAmerican employees are encouraged to wear SwedishAmerican purple.
On Thursday, June 5, SwedishAmerican will hold its first annual employee wheelchair relay races from 12:00 – 1:00 PM near the Heart Hospital entrance. Eight employee teams will decorate their wheelchairs and race against each other in a fun and safe relay course. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest wheelchair team, most creative decorations and the team that raises the money. All proceeds will benefit the SwedishAmerican Employee Hardship Fund.
Friday, June 6, will conclude the week with the health system’s annual Founder’s Day picnic for employees and volunteers from 11 AM to 1:30 PM under the Big Top near Camelot Tower. A neighborhood festival with rides, food and fun for all employees and their children, grandchildren and friends, as well as neighborhood residents, will be held from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at Beattie Playground, 1251 Rural Street. Both the picnic and carnival is hosted by the SwedishAmerican Foundation.
New this year is the SwedishAmerican Founder’s Week hash tag challenge. Employees are encouraged to post pictures, videos and status updates on Twitter and Facebook and include #FoundersWeek14. Names will be drawn the following week and prizes will be awarded.
