SwedishAmerican Breaks Ground On New $5.8 Million Day Care Facility

On October 18, 2007, SwedishAmerican Health System broke ground on a $5.8 million child development and learning center. Children ages 2½ to 5 were on-hand with hard hats and shovels for the special occasion.

Located on Williams Parkway, just east of the hospital, the facility will be named the Ryan Jury Child Development Learning Center, after Ryan Jury, in recognition and appreciation of the Jury family's 22-year commitment and support to SwedishAmerican.

The almost 15,000-square-foot building will be licensed for 175 children from infants to five years. The center will offer full-time and part-time day care, after school care, computer learning center, individual playgrounds based on age, bus service with the District 205 schools, reserved parking spots for convenient drop-off and pickup and summer program. In addition, the center will maintain consistent teacher/student relationship as teachers/students will transition through a two to four year curriculum together. The staff will include teachers with degrees in Early Childhood Education or Elementary Education.

The center will be available for the children of SwedishAmerican employees, SwedishAmerican Active Medical Staff, Family Practice Residency Program, and the Rockford community when openings are available.

Funding for the new center will come from a variety of sources and campaigns, including an initial donation of $542,500 from the Ryan Jury Memorial Fund, which has been raised over the past 22 years from the annual golf outing. The Jury family began the outing in 1986, following Ryan's death from cancer at the age of 23 months.

The facility will be completed by the beginning of the school year in 2008.
